I’ve decided to create the “dumbass of the Month”, presumably with a Dumbass of the Year to be awarded at the end of the 2008. This month’s nominee will likely win it because he probably has suffered the most of any dumbass so far in March. I’m refering to the soon-to-be-ex-governor of New York, Elliot Spitzer. By now you’ve probably heard all about his $4300 sex romp with a hooker… err call girl from The emperor’s Club. If you haven’t seen her yet, here’s a pic. She’s pretty exotic and hot looking, but is 2 hours with her worth losing your job, being divorced (or enduring a frosty marriage) possibly going to jail, and of course the humiliation of this whole scene?
Not to mention that everyone had pretty high hopes for him. This guy went after Wall Street and many other people and industries with guts and gusto and when he became governor, it was anticipated that he would improve government, eliminate waste and fraud and take on sacred cows. Instead he got caught in a scandal, alienated everyone including his own people, and then had to talk about how he paid for a call girl, all while his wife stood at his side, wanting to be anywhere but there.
And here’s the funny thing. He got caught because the government found suspicious wire transfers, then monitored his emails, phone calls and text messages. That’s where they found the incriminating evidence. Yet it was Spitzer who at one time said Never talk when you can nod, and never nod when you can wink, and never write an e-mail because it’s death. You’re giving prosecutors all the evidence we need,”
So there you have it, the first nominee and likely winner for Dumbass of the month of March
